Taste Organic Wines Produced Using Unique Local Varieties

A Unique Winery with Unique WInes

José and Liliana are the founders of the unique El Hato Y El Garabato winery, located in the Arribes del Duero wine region. There are several aspects that make this winery unique, and one is for sure its peculiar name. El Hato Y El Garabato comes from an expression used by Sancho in the Spanish literary masterpiece of Don Quijote. The full expression is dar al diablo el hate y el garabato, meaning to give up everything to avoid any complication.

As kids, José and Liliana were both very curious about nature and rural life (even though they grew up in two very different areas of Spain). Together they travelled the world and went to places like Portugal, California and Australia to learn all the secrets of winemaking and came back to Spain with the dream of opening their own winery. In 2015 El Hate Y El Garabato was up and running.

The Strength of El Hato Y El Garabato

The strength of their winery lies in the peculiar local grapes they use to make their organic wines. Juan Garcia, Doña Blanca, Tinta Jeromo, Puesta en Cruz, Mandon, are just some of the grapes grown at El Hato Y El Garabato.
