Illica Winery, Following in the Footsteps

Located in a small village named Vernasca in the province of Piacenza, Illica Winery prides itself on being one of the premier organic wine producers in the region. Fabrizio Illica is the owner of the winery and he is a third-generation winemaker, following the footsteps of his father and his grandfather before him. They produce a wide selection of wines made from the different varieties of grapes such as Ortrugo, Barbera, Bonarda, Malvasia di Candia and Trebbiano Romagnolo, harvested from the vineyards around the Piacenza hills, located among the woods and the fields.

Organic Certified Wines

The microclimate of this region makes it ideal for grape cultivation and thus use of chemical products has never been necessary in Fabrizio’s vineyards. They acquired the green certification for their grapes twenty years ago, but organic winemaking has always been a part of the process here at the Illica winery. They use traditional methods in the field and modern techniques in the cellar in a perfect balance of culture and technology. Ethics, respect for environment, culture, trend and commercial needs are all good reasons to make the effort to produce organic wines, and at Illica, they take these aspects seriously. At Bellavita Expo London and Amsterdam 2015, one of the Illica’s wines, Archeus Colli Piacentini DOC passito di Malvasia 2013 was categorized “Exquisite” and awarded three stars.
