The Lanye-Barrac VitiFarm is a unique wine farm located between the Orb and Faugérois valleys, nestled at the foot of the Montagne Noire and within the Haut Languedoc Natural Park. Spanning 16.5 hectares of vineyards and 8.5 hectares of preserved woodland, this farm operates under a combined farming and breeding system. The vines are cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods, free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. This approach fosters biodiversity, with vines ranging from over 100 years old to just 10 years old.

Millennium Shale Terroir of Saint-Chinian

Situated on ancient Ordovician-era shale, the Lanye-Barrac VitiFarm benefits from a unique terroir that dates back 488 to 443 million years. The soil, characterized by its flaky structure, allows for excellent drainage and deep root growth, making it ideal for vine cultivation. The region's hot Mediterranean summers and cool Cévennes seasons create perfect conditions for producing refreshing wines. The southeast-facing hills, combined with the influence of the Tramontane wind and the humid Marin breeze from the Gulf of Lion, contribute to the wines' minerality, freshness, and complexity.

A Mosaic of Grape Varieties

The farm boasts a diverse selection of grape varieties, with the oldest planted before 1910 and the newest in 2010. By using high-quality, unadulterated grapes, the winery produces wines with greater amplitude and concentration. Each grape variety is vinified separately, allowing for tailored blends that reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage. The winemaking process emphasizes minimal intervention, honoring the meticulous care given to the vines throughout the year. This commitment to organic practices results in wines that are harmonious and expressive of their terroir.

Welcome and private visit in October by Bernhard who explains to us how his challenge began with his wife Mélanie. Respect for nature, passion for growing vines and breeding both wine and animals, it is a wine farm with animals who are associated with the work of the vines: grazing, soil enrichment.... But the real plus of this couple is the passionate work of the vines and the breeding of wines. What a pleasure to taste in the cellar itself among the aging barrels!!! Very happy to support their project within Terra Hominis. Go visit (make an appointment is better for the organization) Mélanie and Bernhard and also discover their superb region.

Fantastic experience with a dedicated vintner who really cares about creating good natural wines without a lot of additives and letting the farm's animals graze after harvest. A bicycle that protects quality and care for nature.
