The Winery Facility of Nestor

Nestor Winery is situated in Pyrgos Trifylias, a lush area in southwestern Messinia, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, just north of the Bay of Navarino. The winery's design draws inspiration from the ancient palace of King Nestor, located only 6 km away. As one of Greece's largest winemaking establishments, Nestor spans an impressive 10,000 m², with 3,000 m² dedicated to underground cellars. The winery has a production capacity of 1 million liters, with a remarkable daily output of 680 tons. Among its facilities is the Little Winery, which focuses on studying various grape varieties and their potential. This space allows for detailed examination of factors influencing wine growing and production in the region. Additionally, Nestor features a modern distillery, crafted by expert Spyros Lafazanis, where they produce the renowned “Avarino” tsipouro.

Terroir of Messinia

The vineyards of Messinia boast a rich history, with some vines dating back nearly 3,000 years. The area of Yalova, known as “Messinia’s great mother of vineyards,” has been a cornerstone for Greece’s top wineries for over 115 years. Historically, Messinia has played a crucial role in cultivating grape varieties for both raisins and wine, establishing itself as a key winegrowing region. Today, it remains a vital source for table grapes and wine exports throughout Europe, contributing significantly to the wine culture of the Peloponnese and beyond.
