Papantonis Winery, Winemaking History Since 1979
Located in the magnificent town of Argos, Papantonis Winery thrives near the village of Malandreni, a short distance away from Argos. The vineyards provide a beautiful panorama view of the local nature. Papantonis Winery is the first winery to deliver the highest quality, sweet wines made from the Agiorgitiko grape variety in 2002. At present, the estate-owned vineyards are stretched over an area of 50 acres.
After purchasing vineyards in Nemea in 1979, two brothers founded Papantonis Winery in 1992.
Exceptional Award-Winning White Wines
In 1979, Antonis and Kalli Papantonis bought Nemea’s vineyards, much earlier than the establishment of the winery. The siblings gained extensive experience in viticulture and wine production for over a decade. Later in 1992, the brothers officially founded Papantonis Winery and produced world-class wines under the family label. Over the years, the owners have put great dedication and effort into the creation of their wines. In 2005, the estate produced an exceptional award-winning white wine, made from combining Roditis and Chardonnay grape varieties.
Handpicked Berries and Quality Production
After the departure of Kalli in 2008, Antonis, the CEO of Papantonis, directed his focus towards cultivating two Greek varieties – Agiorgitiko and Roditis. He also grows Chardonnay in some parts of the vineyards, all within the appellation of Nemea. The grapevines enjoy perfect soils with rich drainage characteristics that allow slow ripening of vines. Today, he uses selectively handpicked berries and produces top-notch red and white wines, along with delicious dessert wines.
