Quinta da Folgorosa is nestled in the heart of the Lisbon Wine Region, spanning approximately 50 hectares of lush vineyards in Torres Vedras, just 40 minutes north of Lisbon. With a winemaking history dating back to at least 1711, this winery is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the rich traditions of the region.
In the early 19th century, Quinta da Folgorosa found itself on the route taken by Napoleon as he advanced toward Lisbon. Its proximity to the Lines of Torres Vedras made it a strategic location during military actions. The Duke of Wellington, who visited the area, praised the local white wines made from Arinto grapes, calling them the finest in the Lisbon region. The winery also recalls its history with the French Army, naming a camping area “Junot” after the French Marshal defeated by Wellington in 1808.
Located just 20 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, Quinta da Folgorosa benefits from the ocean's influence, imparting a unique freshness and minerality to its wines. The winery dedicates three-quarters of its vineyards to red grape varieties, including Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon, Castelão, Syrah, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. The remaining vineyards are home to white grape varieties such as Arinto, Fernão Pires, Moscatel, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Viognier, and Viosinho. Quinta da Folgorosa is committed to blending ancient winemaking traditions with modern techniques, all while maintaining a sustainable approach. Each bottle reflects the care and craftsmanship that goes into its production, ensuring that every sip offers a taste of the winery's heritage.

I recently visited Quinta da Folgorosa for a grape harvest experience with wine tasting, and it was truly incredible! The wine tasting itself was delightful, with a fantastic selection of wines, but the highlight of the experience was our guide. She was exceptionally knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and made sure I understood every detail about the winemaking process. It was by far the most informative wine tour I’ve ever had. The vineyards and the surrounding area are breathtakingly beautiful, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the region!

Quinta da Folgorosa offers a wine experience that goes far beyond a simple tasting. It is easily accessible and welcomes visitors with a warm and authentic atmosphere. The picnic experience was simply enchanting: with a ready-made basket full of delicious food and excellent wine, we entered the vineyards and chose one of the viewpoints to enjoy the view and the experience. The wine is excellent and perfectly matches the rich flavors of the picnic. The staff was very friendly and made everything even more enjoyable. In short, a day that combines nature, flavors and conviviality in a unique way. An absolutely worthwhile experience, perfect for those looking for a moment of peace surrounded by vineyards and hills.
