Quinta do Sanguinhal is a fifth-generation winery located in Bombarral, within the Lisbon region of Portugal. With over a century of winemaking experience, this estate is surrounded by stunning 19th-century gardens and features a charming family house that adds to its allure.
The pressing room houses one of the oldest distilleries in the area, established in 1871, featuring a traditional wood and granite screw press.
A Diverse Wine Portfolio
Founded by Abel Pereira da Fonseca in the 1920s, Quinta do Sanguinhal boasts over 30 grape varieties cultivated to assess their adaptability to the region. The estate produces a wide range of wines, including Castelão, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Arinto, Fernão Pires, Vital, Moscatel, Rabo de Ovelha, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. Notable wines include Quinta do Sanguinhal DOC Óbidos, Sôttal, and various Sanguinhal varietals, encompassing red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert, and fortified wines.
Liquors and Spirits at Quinta do Sanguinhal
The winery also produces a selection of liquors and spirits, aged in wooden barrels or bottles. An old distillery, operational until 1970, is now open for tours, showcasing the production of brandies and grappa. The Pereira da Fonseca family continues to uphold the traditional charm of this historic estate, welcoming thousands of wine enthusiasts each year.
