Medieval Tower in Ayala Valley

The Torre de Murga stands as a remarkable historical landmark in the picturesque Ayala Valley, just 40 minutes from Vitoria and 20 minutes from Bilbao. Recognized as a Cultural Asset since 1984, this medieval tower was further honored in 2018 when it was classified as a Monumental Complex under the Towers of the Cantabrian Alavesa Region.

A Stunning Architectural Ensemble

Surrounding the majestic Torre de Murga are two palaces dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, creating a breathtaking architectural ensemble perfect for special occasions. Nestled in a serene natural setting, these noble structures are enveloped by lush meadows and ancient oak forests, preserving the area's rich history. The surrounding vineyards produce the renowned Txakoli Txikubin, part of the Txakoli de Álava Denomination of Origin, along with the exclusive Brut Nature Thirteen Stars, both available for tasting at the property.

Txakoli Txikubin Vineyards

The Txakoli Txikubin vineyards, spanning 4 hectares, are located just 2 kilometers from the center of the region. Situated at a latitude of 42-43° North, the vineyards benefit from the temperate climate influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean. Surrounded by oak groves and meadows, these vineyards practice integrated production and natural plant protection. The vines thrive on gently sloping terrain with nutrient-rich soil, a pH of around 7.5, and low active limestone, all nourished by the flowing Izoria River.

We have already gone twice to the historical-ethnological guided tour. It has been a pleasure to listen to Fede and learn about the history of Ayala and the Murga tower, along with the process of making txakoli. We have had the opportunity to try the local product, txakoli from the tower's own vineyards. Thank you very much for your enthusiasm, knowledge and kindness!

It's somewhat hidden, but you can drive within about 100 meters of the site. The tower was closed, but the spot is good for photography. There are half a dozen ducks wandering around and appearing closer as you pass.
