Vaeni Naoussa- Winery with many local and International Awards
The Vaeni Naoussa winery has been in operation for 36 years, exports its wine to 31 countries, has won over 30 quality local and international awards and produces its wine under 28 wine labels. The Vaeni Naoussa cooperative has a privately-owned vineyard that covers over 23 areas of land, 20 of which are planted with Merlot and the remaining 3 with Xinomavro. The planting density of the vineyards is 330 plants per acre.
The Grape Varieties
The grape varietals that are vinified by the Vaeni Naoussa cooperative are mainly Xinomavro and a small amount of Roditis, Syrah and Merlot. Xinomavro is a varietal that is indigenous to Northern Greece and is known by various other names including Mavro Naoussis, Mavro Miaustino, Mavo Goumenisssa, Mavro Xino, Popolka, Xinomavro Kozani and Xinomavro which it most commonly goes by.
Different Types of Wines
The various wine ranges produced at Vaeni Naoussa are the P.D.O Naoussa Wines, the PGI Macedoni Wines, the Table Wines and one of the famous Greek Retsina. One of the most popular if its wines is the Grande Reserve Naoussa which has not only received many awards and medals in domestic and international competitions but also received high praise from wine drinks across the globe. The winery at Vaeni Naoussa was built in 1984 when the Vaeni Naoussa cooperative was established and is located on the national Road from Veria to Edessa. The winery consists of various areas for winemaking, maturation and ageing in the wine cellar which is located in the basement of the building. There are also areas for bottling and storage of the final product.
