Home to Priknadi - A Rare Greek Grape Variety
A Winery with Rich History
Located just four kilometers from Naoussa, Estate Chrisohoou is nestled on the southeastern slopes of Mount Vermion. The winery's roots trace back to 1948 when the Chrishoou family began producing and bottling a variety of beverages, including wine, ouzo, brandy, liqueur, and vermouth. In 1977, Kimis Chrishoou married Betty, and together they established the renowned Estate Chrisohoou, expanding their vineyard to cover 10 hectares in Strantza Naoussas. By 1994, they had built a well-equipped wine factory, and in 1998, they introduced a tasting room and production area to enhance visitor experiences.
A Unique Winemaking Experience
Estate Chrisohoou stands out not only for its wines but also for its small museum, which showcases a collection of viticulture and enological artifacts. Visitors can view traditional wooden winepresses, vintage demijohns, and historical bottling and labeling machines. This winery beautifully blends the rich wine tradition of Naousa with the Chrishoou family's winemaking heritage, all while incorporating modern techniques.
Celebrating Greek Grape Varieties
This family-owned winery produces a diverse range of white, red, and rosé wines. One of their standout offerings is the Xinomavro Naoussa, a celebrated red wine from 1971. The winery utilizes a variety of grapes, including Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Ugni Blanc. Notably, they cultivate Priknadi, a traditional and rare white Greek grape variety, to create their acclaimed Prekniariko. The vineyard benefits from ideal conditions of temperature, humidity, and sunlight, essential for the maturation and aging of the vines. For wine enthusiasts, Estate Chrisohoou promises a memorable experience filled with rich flavors and local heritage.
