Jean Becker: A Legacy of Alsace Winemaking

Jean Becker Winery boasts a rich history that dates back to 1610, with roots as a wine shipper established in 1848. Today, the winery is run by a dedicated trio: brothers Jean Philippe, an oenologist, and Jean-François, along with their sister Martine, who is supported by Audrey, a skilled sommelier. Together, they manage a 25-hectare vineyard that produces a variety of exceptional wines, including renowned Grands Crus such as Froehn, Schoenenbourg, Sonnenglanz, and Mandelberg. Since 1999, the winery has embraced organic practices and has transitioned to biodynamic farming, with the addition of orange wines and skin contact natural wines introduced in 2019.

The Distinct Terroir of Vins Becker

The unique terroir of Vins Becker is characterized by its bedrock soil, which contains small amounts of limestone. During winemaking, only the free-run juice is utilized, while the remaining berries are pressed separately. The winery favors natural yeasts and minimizes filtration to preserve the wine's integrity. Traditional maceration techniques are employed, with shorter periods for rosé and extended for red wines. The Pinot Noir red wines are aged in barrels, using only a small percentage of new oak. The result is crisp, dry wines that showcase the terroir's distinct characteristics. Vins Becker’s top Riesling features a fresh minerality, complemented by aromas of apricot, pineapple, and spices, offering a delightful tasting experience.

Visit Vins Becker

Vins Becker warmly welcomes groups of wine enthusiasts for guided tours of the winery, with a minimum of 10 participants. We came by by chance on the recommendation of friends and were given a very friendly welcome. We had a very good conversation with the boss and would love to come back. I don't understand some of the negative reviews, but often it may depend on your own friendliness and behavior how you are treated. Recommended purchase: Pinot blanc and Pinot gris (but that always depends very much on your own taste).

Very good sweet wine... oops sweet. We came during a hike last week, a bit of a cold welcome at first because of the sulfite and the term "sweet wine" that we were used to using... but we tasted the Gewurztraminer and the Muscat and it was very good. And the conversation became more pleasant too. We had a bottle. Don't hesitate to stop on the Grands Crus trail!
