Antonelli San Marco, Owned by the Very Family Since 1881
Antonelli San Marco has been owned by the same family since 1881 and is one of the oldest wine companies in the Montefalco DOCG area. The estate is spread across 190 hectares of land and completed the conversion to organic farming in 2009. They offer wine tourism in the pretty and old Casale Satriano that has fully-furnished apartments and a swimming pool. It is surrounded by vineyards, and the place is perfect for relaxing in the lap of nature.
A Terroir That Helps Produce High-quality Grapes
The vineyards are present in the best areas of the region. The clayey soil is rich in milestone and works perfectly with the moderate microclimate here. The natural conditions allow for the cultivation of vines and grow high-quality grapes. The vineyards are oriented from south to west. The Grechetto, Spoletino, and Trebbiano grapes are used for ref wines while Sagrantino, Sangiovese, and Montepulciano are used for white wines. The company also breeds pigs now to produce cured meats and organize truffle hunting for guests.
Gravity Vinification in the Cellar
The wine cellar is below the manor house and makes use of gravity vinification. The pressed grapes enter the fermenters, and the discharge is done through gravity. This saves energy and helps to control fermentation and maceration better. The company started the conversion to organic farming in 2009, and they are certified organic since the 2012 harvest. There is no use of chemical fertilizers, which allows the wine to retain a natural, fruity taste. The unique wines reflect the quality of the terroir and are loved by their customers worldwide.
