Casale 120 winery

Casale 120 is a boutique winery located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in the historic Contrada Picciolo, a volcanic amphitheater embraced by ancient lava flows from 1911 and 1923.  This is where the red wines of the Casale 120 winery are produced; the fruit of the optimum climatic conditions, the generosity of the warm volcanic soil and its minerality, the coldness of the mountain and the Sicilian sun. Here Sicilian agronomist Maurizio and Dutch winegrower Margriet combine their shared passion for viticulture and sustainability, breathing new life into a recently restored 19th-century winery and the historical terraced vineyards that surround it.

The estate boasts vines that are up to 140 years old, supported by a traditional vine-tree training system and dry-stone walls made of lava stone, a testament to Etna's deep-rooted viticulture heritage. Each vine is cultivated in accordance with centuries-old traditions, using ecological methods that optimize quality grape production.

Casale 120 focuses on preserving biodiversity, with a section of the vineyard dedicated to Etna's nearly extinct native varietals. Meanwhile, on the southern flanks of the volcano, in Milo at 870 meters above sea level, the winery cultivates Carricante for its Etna Bianco and Etna Bianco Superiore.

Located in the hamlet of Rovittello, just minutes from Linguaglossa, Piano Provenzana and the Catania-Messina highway. Casale 120 welcomes wine passionates and travelers eager to discover Etna's unique viticultural landscape.

At Casale 120, winemaking is a pure expression of the volcanic terroir, the distinctive Etna vintages, and the grape varietals themselves. The winery specializes in the region’s two emblematic appellations:

Etna Rosso DOC: Primarily made from Nerello Mascalese, with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio, this red wine is elegant yet structured, mineral-driven, and deeply connected to the black soils of Contrada Picciolo. The use of the traditional alberello system ensures low yields and high-quality grapes, translating into wines of authentic character.

Etna Bianco Superiore DOC: Produced from 100% Carricante grown in the high-altitude vineyards of Milo, this white wine is refined and fresh, offering vibrant acidity, mineral complexity, and a long finish—hallmarks of its exceptional origin.
