Fragospito Winery has deep roots in the heart of Crete, tracing its origins back to 1906 when Emmanuel Gavalas, the great-grandfather of the current owners, planted the first vineyards. Using a traditional Minoan stone treading tank from his hometown of Agios Thomas, he began a family legacy of winemaking that continues to this day.
In 2001, Fragospito Winery transitioned to organic cultivation, prioritizing environmental health and consumer safety. This commitment ensures that the vineyards remain free from harmful pesticides, allowing the natural flavors of the grapes to shine. In 2004, the winery was modernized with state-of-the-art facilities, where every step of the winemaking process—from grape harvesting to bottling—is meticulously managed to produce high-quality wines.

The day began with a guided tour of the winery, followed by a walk through the picturesque vineyards and a visit to the historic Fragospito house, which dates back to the Venetian period. The setting was both beautiful and rich in history, offering a glimpse into the winery’s fascinating past, and it was the perfect place for wine tasting with breathtaking views of the hills and vineyards. The wine tasting was the true highlight – we sampled a wide variety of their exquisite wines, starting with the whites and progressing to the reds. Our favorites were the Fragospito white and Kotsifali for the reds. Each wine was paired with fantastic local food, and the flavors perfectly complemented the fresh Cretan dishes. Nikos, the owner, along with his wife Vasso and their daughters Anna and Christina, were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, which made the experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for an authentic and unforgettable winery visit, Fragospito is an absolute must. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed the tour and the indigenous variety wines tasting. The tour guide was very friendly and we felt very welcomed. So glad we chose to stop here on our long drive and we highly recommend it.

One of the best wines I have ever tasted! Their entire range, but especially their whites, are one of a kind! Also the Gavalas family, truly hospitable, as befits a Cretan family! They treated us like their own people, with a special mention for Grandma Marika's pure cakes. Thank you very much and I wish you good work and always success!

I came here by chance... But I thought, since I'm already here, I might as well buy a bottle of wine.... Professional, very friendly service and advice.... Although it's very small and easy to navigate, it's good.... I'd be happy to come back
