Our group had a fabulous time at Quinta d’Amares! Great wine paired with wonderful cheese and gorgeous views. Pedro was very accommodating and provided us with a wonderful tasting. Would recommend him as our connoisseur any time!

After visiting vineyards in Italy, Sicily, Greece, Spain, the USA and various DOC's in both France and Portugal, I think this might be the best vineyard I have visited so far. It is a very small quinta sits in the middle of the Vinho Verde DOC and it mainly (perhaps entirely) grows the Loureiro grape. Its fields run down to, and then partially encircle, an old monastery which was once an important center of learning in the Minho region. Even though the vineyard was in full and active harvest at the time, Tiogo (the Sales Manager) took time to lead my tiny group of four on a tour of the facilities. We watched the grapes being picked, transported and then processed. When Tiogo walked the fields with us, he pointed out that different parts of the fields used different farming techniques, and he explained how those differences affected the taste and body of the wine. He then led us through a tasting where we got to experience those differences in the most enjoyable way. Overall, the quinta strives to be environmentally friendly and it clearly values the quality of production over quantity. If you can, you should definitely try a glass of the Pét Nat and of the Claustrum, which are both light and summery wines. The other wines were also excellent but these were my favorites.
