Welcome to the stunning region of Alto Adige
The winery Cantina Valle Isarco is situated in the Eisacktal Valley, one of the most exceptional landscapes in Alto Adige. Here, towering mountains are dotted with ancient castles, monasteries, and villages.
The vines mature perfectly on the steep slopes
Due to the valley’s proximity to the mountains, there is a high variation between daytime and nighttime temperatures, an extremely favourable condition for viticulture. The people of the valley are accustomed to working on the steep mountain slopes, where grapes grow at an altitude of 400 – 970 meters above sea level. These unique conditions are ideal for the cultivation of white wine, as the microclimate of the valley ensures that grapes reach maturity with a high sugar content.
Winery Cantina Valle Isarco: producing elegant white and red wines
The wine making tradition here is ancient, with earliest evidence of grape cultivation dating to before the common era. Despite the long tradition, wine making in the Valley was virtually abandoned after the end of World War II, only to be re-born with the founding of winery Cantina Valle Isarco in 1961. The prehistoric tradition of the valley and the fascinating story of the Cantina itself are displayed at a small, elegant wine museum. Along beautiful terraced slope, the Cantina produces varieties such as Müller Thurgau, Pinot Bianco, Sylvaner, Pinot Grigio, Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon, Kerner, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Lagrein, Schiava, and Pinot Nero. Of the nine white wines produced by the Cantina Valle Isarco, three come exclusively from the southernmost “registered designation of origin” (DOC) area of Valle Isarco and bear the “Alto Adige DOC” mark (Alto Adige Pinot Bianco, Alto Adige Chardonnay, & Alto Adige Sauvignon), while the other six also boast the “Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC” designation.
Though the vast majority of production are white wines, the winery produces elegant red wines as well, and the elegant character of the wines testifies to the growers continuing the excellent tradition of the valley
