The Wines from Marco Scolaris Winery Express the Terroir of Collio
Enclosed by the Julian Prealps near the Adriatic Sea, the Marco Scolaris winery is located among the gentle hills of the Collio region. The winery produces both autochthonous and commercial wines that possess a unique taste and aromas, expressing the essence of terroirs and soil of Collio territory.
The Cellar Underwent a Total Renovation Equipped with Modern Technology
Founded by Giovanni Scolaris in 1924, the winery has undergone many advancements over the past years. At first, simple equipment for viticulture was used by Giovanni, such as acacia wood cats, screw pressing, physical piston pump, wooden chestnut barrels of 7 hectoliters, and wooden oak barrels of 3 hectoliters. Today, Marco has established a new cellar, adjacent to the old building. He as well purchased an old bottling line of the Seitz company – the Ferrari and enhanced the production capacity by 3000 bottles per hour. The cellar is entirely renovated and equipped with modern grape presses.
Combining Modern and Traditional Techniques at Marco Scolaris
Using traditional as well as latest work ethics, the Marco Scolaris Winery grows a wide range of grapes within the Collio DOC region. It includes unique OĈELOT, Ribolla Gialla, Schioppettino, Friulano, and Refosco. Marco also gives preference to the finest Verduzzo, Traminer Aromatico, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The yield per hectare is about 85 to 90 quintals of grapes. Along with high-quality red and white wine, the company produces delicious dessert, rose, and sparkling wines. The Ocelot is the heart and soul of the estate as Marco Scolaris is the only winery that produces this unique vintage wine.
