History of Cantina Luca Gentile
Luca Gentile coordinated a group of 25 farmers on 2nd February 1960 to set up a company to promote and enhance local grape varieties. The company was named after the founder and president for thirty years in the Murgia of Bari. The company sources its grapes from 500 winegrowers in the neighboring municipalities. Currently, the company has 400 members that process around 6 million KG grapes annually and make wines from it.
Gifted terroir of the region
The terroir of the region has calcareous soil with high minerals that combines with local espalier and albarello vines to grow fruity grapes. The vineyards of the company are located in Gioia del Colle DOC region that is renowned for the native Primitivo grape variety. The best grapes are handpicked by the workers and arrive ripe to the cellar, where they are carefully vinified by expert winemakers. Even though they use modern innovative techniques, there is a lot of respect and love for ancient traditions.
Modern technology at the winery
The high-quality red, white, and rose wines made by the winery are a result of great care and commitment by the staff in the vineyards as well as the cellar. Harvesting takes place manually, and all steps from harvesting to the bottling of wines are taken carefully. Wines are fermented in cement vats at controlled temperatures. Wines are aged in small oak barrels and bottled in a modern plant. Their products include red wine, white wine, Superior, Talents, Classic, and 100 Berries collection.
