perfect climatic conditions
Shaw + Smith was founded in 1989 by cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW. They produce wines from two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills totaling 55 hectares. They produce varieties of grapes that grow particularly well in the climate and soil conditions of the area, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
Wines reflecting natural flavours
Shaw + Smith winery focuses on growing grapes of the highest possible quality, prioritizing environmentally sustainable practices, vine health and soil health. The commitment to sustainability means that Shaw + Smith takes an organic approach, using sheep to control weeds, promoting beneficial insects, and using only natural fertilisers. The result is exquisite low yield grapes that have deep and natural flavours. The grapes are harvested by hand and all the wines are produced on sight at the Balhannah vineyard.
The wines, both red and white, are vibrant and medium bodied, and truly reflect the unique terroir
As Shaw + Smith winery continues to grow, Michael and Martin have expanded their scope by putting together a team that includes acclaimed viticulture, winemaking and business experts.
