The Essence of Domaine de la Mordorée

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, Domaine de la Mordorée is a celebrated winery in Tavel, Rhône Valley. The name "Mordorée" refers to a unique color and symbolizes the woodcock bird, which is also the winery's emblem. The estate is known by several other names, including “La Dame Voyageuse,” “La Dame Rousse,” “La Remise,” and “La Reine des Bois,” each representing different cuvées. Spanning 58.5 hectares, the vineyard is now managed by Madeleine and Ambre Delorme following Christophe's passing in 2015.

A Prime Location in Tavel

Nestled at the crossroads of Languedoc and Provence, Domaine de la Mordorée produces exceptional wines from renowned appellations such as Châteauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Côtes du Rhône, and Condrieu. The winery is committed to organic and biodynamic practices, ensuring that every aspect of the vineyard and cellar reflects a sustainable approach. Manual harvesting preserves the quality of the grapes, while the natural balance of the ecosystem protects against pests and diseases, resulting in outstanding Tavel wines.

Domaine de la Mordorée cultivates a wide array of grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Merlot, Marselan, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. Outstanding wines at very reasonable prices. Having visited a number of vineyards around France, we often find that the prices are similar to Canada, however, that was not the case here. $100+ bottle of red was $60 here. P.S. Be sure to try the Rose, it was amazing!

I have tasted many of the estate's wines over the years and I must say that I have never been disappointed. A beautiful selection in the range, French wine, Lirac, Tavel, Château-neuf and even Condrieu... Wines to enjoy all year round in beautiful bottles to age. I recommend going to the cellar to taste the latest nuggets on offer. Always a great welcome. Thanks to its craftsmen who shape the taste of good things and protect our land.
