Schmidt Family Vineyards: A Legacy in Applegate Valley

Located in the renowned Applegate Valley of Oregon, Schmidt Family Vineyards is the realization of Cal and Judy Schmidt's lifelong dream of farming and winemaking. Cal, who grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas, developed a passion for winemaking and pursued education in viticulture while running a successful business. In 2000, he acquired the Bennet Ranch land in the fertile Kubli Bench, establishing what is now known as Schmidt Family Vineyards. The first vineyards were planted in 2001, and by 2004, they produced their inaugural 300 cases of wine, which were released in 2006. The estate features a picturesque pond, vibrant herb and flower gardens, and scenic walking paths, perfect for private events. The trails are named after Judy and Cal’s great-grandchildren, adding a personal touch to the landscape.

Three Generations of Winemaking Excellence

Schmidt Family Vineyards is proudly operated by three generations of the Schmidt family. Their first vintage in 2006 quickly gained popularity, selling out in no time. Today, the winery produces approximately 5,500 cases of wine each year, benefiting from the ideal conditions for vine cultivation. The estate has expanded to include rare Spanish and Italian grape varieties alongside popular selections. The main grapes grown here include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Albarino, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec, Cab Franc, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each grape is carefully selected to create high-quality red, white, rosé, and dessert wines, all celebrated for their unique taste and aroma.
