History of the Winery

Domaine Sainte Marie is a historic winery located in the picturesque Provence region of France. Its roots trace back to the 18th century when the land was part of the Monastere de la Verne. A notable feature of the estate is the striking statue of the Virgin Mary, erected in 1884 after a cholera outbreak, symbolizing hope and resilience.

Ideal Location of Domaine Sainte Marie

The vineyards at Domaine Sainte Marie span 40 hectares of south-facing land characterized by sandy, permeable soils. This prime location benefits from hot, dry summers and cooler nights, creating an ideal climate for grape cultivation. Surrounded by a lush forest of oaks, corks, pines, and heather, the estate fosters a rich biodiversity that enhances the quality of the wines produced here.

The estate cultivates a variety of grapes, including Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Sémillon, Muscat, Tibouren, Clairette, Rolle, and Ugni Blanc, with an average vine age of around 35 years. Harvesting occurs early in the morning, between 3 AM and 8 AM, ensuring the grapes are picked at their freshest. The grapes are then transported to four dedicated cellars on the estate, where minimal sulphites are used in the winemaking process. The concrete cellar allows the red wines to mature gracefully over time.
