Located in the picturesque Henty region of Victoria, Australia, Wando Lodge Winery is surrounded by stunning rolling hills and majestic red gum trees. This charming winery specializes in a single variety vineyard dedicated solely to the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
Wando Lodge Winery adheres strictly to organic farming principles, ensuring that every aspect of the vineyard is managed sustainably.
A Holistic Winemaking Approach
The winemakers at Wando Lodge focus on creating a harmonious environment that balances the land, vines, and the cattle and horses raised on-site. They utilize compost and worm fertilizers to enrich the soil, hand-tend the vines, and employ a drip irrigation system for optimal growth. With a small vineyard size, the aim is to produce limited quantities of high-quality wine. Wando Lodge wines are known for their smooth, round flavors, with an alcohol content of around 13%. The grapes are hand-picked, sorted, and then crushed and destemmed in the winery, maturing in French oak barrels for up to 18 months.
Tasting the Unique Vintages
Currently, Wando Lodge offers 2013, 2015, and 2016 vintages, with approximately 300 cases of each stored in optimal conditions. Unfortunately, the 2014 and 2017 vintages were not harvested due to adverse weather conditions affecting grape quality. The winery produces both Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Gris, wines that are approachable and enjoyed by a wide range of wine enthusiasts.
