North Jutland is one of the two most famous wine regions in Denmark, a country that could be more renowned for winemaking. However, Denmark has a few voluminous vineyards and, thanks to its extra warmth due to global warming, produces notable wines, still comparatively in lesser amounts than other wine countries. Although the region of Jutland, located in the North of Denmark, is considered quite a cool place and unsuitable for winemaking, in recent years, benefiting from climate changes, it has demonstrated that it is capable of producing quality wine. Winemaking was legalized in 1999 in Denmark, and since that period, more and more wineries and vineyards have emerged in its wine regions. It has gained fame with its famous Don Cuvé sparkling wine. Besides North Jutland, another strong wine-producing region of the country is South Denmark.
The vineyards of North Jutland usually grow hybrid white grape varieties such as Orion, Madeleine Angevine, Solaris, and Elmsfeuer, which can survive in cold weather and has a short ripening period. The long summer provides enough time for these crops to grow before harvest and condition a crispy, fruity, structured and moderately acidic taste. Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz are occasionally planted here, too. Fruit such as apples or berries is also sometimes used in production. Also, the winemakers in North Jutland are pretty dedicated to their job and focused on high-quality craftsmanship. They even have been awarded various prizes in international wine competitions. All that combination indicated that the wine business in North Jutland and Denmark generally is only getting better, and the quality they provide is uncompromised. Therefore, the region is a pure newness and extremely curious for every exotic wine lover to discover.
