Carlos Afonso

My work is rooted in WE WANT GREEN, a project I founded to explore the relationship between landscape, culture, and rural life.

I design and lead experiences in northern Portugal, particularly in the Minho region, where wine, agriculture, and community are deeply interconnected.

Through guided walks, vineyard encounters, and tastings, I invite travellers to read the territory — not as a sequence of visits, but as a living system shaped by time, practice, and memory.

From the terraced landscapes of Sistelo to the vineyards of 

Monção and Melgaço, and further into the Lima Valley, each experience reveals different expressions of Vinho Verde — shaped by distinct relationships between land, climate, and human presence.

This is a region marked by layered histories — from pre-Roman cultures to the medieval Ways of Saint James — where memory remains embedded in the landscape and in everyday life.

Rather than offering conventional tours, my approach creates space for attention, slowness, and connection — where walking, observing, and tasting become ways of engaging with place, and where wine is understood as part of a broader cultural and territorial context.
