Born in 1987, studied tourism, history and wine. João Koehler live in the Douro Valley and is a wine guide since 2011. Graduted in 2016 as a sommelier, he worked at the luxury restaurant of the six senses hotel. In 2018 João decide to open is company and his goal is to give the best and more informative wine tours in the North of Portugal

We were most excited about this tour while visiting Douro. João was an exceptional guide and incredibly knowledgeable about the local terroir, winemaking, and history. We tasted a great range of the region’s expression.

Great tour with Joao
We had a wonderful tour with Joao. He is very knowledgeable of wine and Portugal and very engaging . We visited three wineries , all very different with great wine and Porto! He took us to a very nice local restaurant and the food was great . Highly recommend the tour with Joao.

We read dozens of reviews and itineraries before deciding on this one, and we were so pleased that we did. João made our day extra special, from picking us up in a hard to-get-to location to educating us about Portugal’s Douro valley wines. We loved the contrast of the two wineries that he chose. Our experience at the small, family-run winery was outstanding and the personal attention and curated tasting was fantastic. The contrast with the larger winery, where João had formally worked, gave us a different perspective on the wine industry. One of our favorite parts of the day was lunch at the authentic restaurant with João, where we were the only non-locals. The traditional Portuguese dishes he helped us choose were all delicious. We had heard from friends that the hour-long boat trip down the Douro should be avoided, and João affirmed our choice. This was an outstanding day! You won’t be disappointed if you choose this one!
