The Centuries-Old History of Baulieu

Baulieu has been crafting great wines for over two hundred years. King Henry III of France founded the winery in 1576 with the same family running the winery for generations. The vineyard spreads across an area of 22 hectares and enjoys a fantastic orientation facing the northeast. It sits at an altitude of 400 meters, the soil consists of clay and limestone on lava basalt. The ideal geographic location and climate of Villa Baulieu vineyards contribute to the winery’s exceptional wines.

The ideal day and night temperatures encourage the production of excellent red and white wines. Due to their location, the winery’s terroir benefits from diverse soils. Notably, the winery overlooks the Durance River and faces the Luberon and the Sainte Victoire Mountain. The winemakers at the winery mature the wines in high-quality oak barrels, giving them great complexity and spicy notes.
