Pannobile Tasting Days (Gols, Burgenland)

Burgenland Austria May 1-3, 2026

Pannobile Tasting Days (Gols, Burgenland) is one of the wine festivals that anchors the Burgenland calendar, drawing both local visitors and international wine travellers each year. It is held at Gols in Lake Neusiedl region, in the heart of one of Austria's most distinctive wine areas. It has been running since 1994, with a long unbroken local tradition behind it.

The Pannobile collective is one of Austria's most respected wine groupings — nine Gols-area family estates (Gernot Heinrich, Pittnauer, Achs, Beck, Nittnaus, Renner, Leitner, Pickler-Haring and Gsellmann) collaborating since 1994 around a shared regional Pannobile blend made from indigenous Burgenland varieties. The annual Pannobile Tasting Days bring all nine estates to a single Gols venue each May to present their full ranges — Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, the Pannobile blend itself, plus the white wines from each estate — alongside masterclasses on Burgenland terroir and pairings with regional Pannonian cuisine. Austrian wine release events showcase the new vintages from the country's tightly drawn DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) appellations. Programmes combine producer tastings of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Sauvignon Blanc and the region's other key varieties, masterclasses on the vintage and on the DAC system, sommelier-led comparisons of single-vineyard Rieden bottlings, and food pairings with Austrian specialities. Trade and press attendance is strong, but most events include public days during the run of the programme for wine enthusiasts willing to register in advance. The event is organised by Pannobile Winzergemeinschaft, which sets the tone and direction of the programme each year.

Burgenland is Austria's red-wine heartland, sitting along the Hungarian border and benefiting from a Pannonian climate that's warmer and drier than the rest of the country. The region produces Austria's most-planted indigenous reds — Blaufränkisch (the region's signature, particularly in the Mittelburgenland and Eisenberg DACs), Zweigelt, St. Laurent — alongside outstanding sweet wines from Lake Neusiedl, where the lake's morning mists create ideal conditions for botrytis-affected wines. Ruster Ausbruch and the Trockenbeerenauslese sweet wines of the Seewinkel are world-class. Notable producers include Kracher (the late Alois Kracher revolutionised Austrian sweet wine), Gernot Heinrich, Moric, Triebaumer, Feiler-Artinger and Velich.

The 2026 edition is scheduled for May 1-3, 2026. Festival access is ticketed: Tasting pass approximately €40-60. Full programme, ticketing and updated information are published on the official site at https://www.pannobile.com. Visitors are advised to check directly with the organiser for the latest schedule, as festival programmes are sometimes updated close to the event date.

Burgenland is reached via Vienna airport (around 90 minutes by car or train), with Eisenstadt as the regional capital. Rust on Lake Neusiedl is the most-visited wine-tourism town and home to the Ruster Ausbruch sweet-wine tradition. Other key bases include Mörbisch, Illmitz (in the Seewinkel zone east of the lake) and Deutschkreutz in Mittelburgenland. Burgenland cuisine pairs the wines with Pannonian specialities: Esterházy Rostbraten, Kürbisschnitzel, the famous goose dishes of the Seewinkel, paprika-influenced fish stews from Lake Neusiedl, the area's Buschenschank cured meats, and the famous Esterhazy and Mannerschnitten pastries.
