Bodegas Valenciso: Celebrating 28 Years of Winemaking in Rioja

Established in 1998 by the Enciso and Valentin families, Bodegas Valenciso has been a cornerstone of the La Rioja wine scene for nearly three decades. Nestled in Ollauri, just four kilometers from Haro, this winery is committed to sustainable practices that honor the environment while crafting exceptional wines. Known for its unique approach, Bodegas Valenciso is the only winery in the region that utilizes concrete tanks for fermentation, resulting in distinctive flavors and aromas.

Aging in French Oak Barrels

The winery's award-winning wines benefit from aging in French oak barrels, which impart a delightful complexity and longevity. The Atlantic climate of La Rioja, characterized by mild summers, allows grapes to ripen slowly, enhancing their quality. The clay-based soil, enriched with limestone, provides an ideal foundation for vine cultivation. The architectural design of Bodegas Valenciso, created by renowned architect Alfonso Samaniego, harmonizes traditional materials with modern elements, creating a spacious and inviting environment.

Tempranillo: The Heart of Bodegas Valenciso

At the core of Bodegas Valenciso's offerings is the Tempranillo grape, the hallmark of La Rioja's celebrated red wines. The winery blends traditional winemaking values with a dedication to quality, producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region and the passion of its winemakers. With a focus on craftsmanship and sustainability, Bodegas Valenciso continues to be a leader in the Rioja wine community.

The visit to the winery costs €25 and includes a tour of the different areas and a tasting of three types of wine accompanied by some cheese tapas. It is a curious winery as it uses different methods for wine fermentation, such as storing in cement instead of stainless steel. The man explains everything very well, with a lot of detail and experience. It is a very pleasant winery to visit. @gema.carr

A very pleasant visit, guided exclusively by one of the founding people, with interesting explanations and a tasting of 3 wines, different from those we already knew, which impressed us. The treatment has been very close and gratifying. It is a new winery, with a modern feel, orderly and clean, taking care of the details. It is worth highlighting the access door to the entire premises, a beautiful and original trellis, in harmony with the landscape and place. The experience has been different from other winery visits, peculiar, but ultimately it has been pleasant and pleasant.

We had a great weekend in Rioja! The first thing we did was visit Bodegas Valenciso @valencisorioja for a tour and wine tasting. They really put it together. They give a tour of their facilities, explaining the entire production process, and offer you a rosé accompanied by ham sandwiches as your first tasting. I'm not much of a rosé fan, but it was good. At the next stop on the tour, they offer you a glass of white wine accompanied by a chaca canapé. Rioja white wine is very different from the Verdejo we're used to drinking, so it's a bit odd on the palate, but I liked it too (not enough to order it in bars, but oh well). And at the last stop, right after we finished, they offered us their red reserva, which was delicious, accompanied by some pieces of cheese. We enjoyed the tour, we enjoyed the tasting, and we loved Ana's explanations! That's why we highly recommend it! If you also do it with a group of friends like we did... even better! It was fun hehehe, but book it early because it takes more than a month for you to be able to reserve 😳 We left there with some wines… our cellar continues to grow…. #larioja #wineriesinlarioja #spain #riojawine #rubigastrotraveler #valenciso #ollariz #riojanwine #rioja #winetastings #wineries #planswithfriends #Iliketotravel #enjoy

We enjoyed an exceptional morning visiting the winery, its vineyards, hearing first-hand from its founders all the secrets of their incredible wines. It is a joy to see the good taste with which they take care of each of the details, the enthusiasm they convey about their project to all the people who come to Valenciso, how well they treat you from the first contact (Ana who treated us was always super friendly wonderful and adapted without problems to the last minute changes) and how interesting everything they tell is. We finished the visit with a super enjoyable tasting of three of their wines, of which we are already fans. Without a doubt, a winery to return and recommend and to which we would like to return to live one of the experiences they propose. Many thanks for everything!

Very nice visit!!!! We have been treated like luxury. It's worth a stop to visit the winery. Luis explained to us all kinds of details of the winemaking process. The Valenciso Reserva is an exceptional wine, but the surprise for me has been the white Valenciso, a wine that I have to taste. Totally recommended!!!
