Since 1955, Château de Mauvanne has been classified as Cru Classé Côtes de Provence. The vines cover an area up to 43 hectares where the winery grow a huge variety of vines. Château de Mauvanne provides beautiful terroir that produces the best Mediterranean wines with a long and impressive history.
A Winery with an Exciting History
So, the history of Mauvanne Castle dates back to the seventeenth century. Simone Berriau, an actress, acquired the winery in 1934. When the Second World War ended, she renovated the estate and converted it into one of the proudest estates in the city of Hyères. After the renovation in 1999, Bassim Rahal – the owner of the estate and a brilliant winemaker – works with big competence and happiness in the vineyards. At Château de Mauvanne, history, tradition, and competence come together to create outstanding wines. Mr. Rahal reinforced the fame of the production of white, rosé, and red wines of high quality.Today, the winery has a modern cellar and a dynamic team that makes the Château de Mauvanne to one of the high-valued wineries of Hyères.
A Wide Range of Grape Varieties Thrives at Château de Mauvanne
Château de Mauvanne grows a wide array of vines. For red and rosé wines, they cultivate Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre along with Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. For the production of white wines, they grow Ugni Blanc and Clairette.
