Sharpham Wine Estate, First Modern Winery in the Wine Region of Devon
Sharpham Wine Estate is located on the heart of River Dart in the winemaking region of Devon. Nature has been very kind to their estate, as they are known for producing classic English wines. The winery owners combine their traditional methods with modern and innovative techniques to make the best use of their natural resources. After the demise of all commercial vineyards during World War II, Sharpham Winery was one of the first modern wineries and has been at the heart of the business for around over 37 years.
The United Kingdom has approximately 2000 hectares of vineyards and 130 wineries, making about 5 million bottles of wine per year.
Ultimate Winery Location with a Unique Climate
Mark Sharman took over the Sharpham Winery vineyards in 1988 and focused on winemaking and cheese production. Their vineyards have unique conditions, and the grapes ripen fully to make wines with generous aromas and texture. The cool climate of this English wine region, along with the soil, temperature, and rainfall, makes it an ultimate location for vines’ cultivation. The wines reflect the gifted features of their terroir.
Sharpham Wine Estate and Their Awards
World-class red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines all have their place at Sharpham Wine Estate. The main grape varieties grown are Madeline Angevine, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, and Phoenix. Both the wines and cheese have won numerous honorable awards for their high quality and distinctness. The winery’s Bacchus won Gold at the 2015 English and Welsh Wine Awards.
