Wine Tasting: Qvevri - European Style – Discover the Difference
During the tasting, you’ll explore two traditional Georgian wines made in qvevri and two crafted using European methods, featuring the same grape varieties – Rkatsiteli and Saperavi – but with very different expressions.
🍷 Qvevri Wines
- Rkatsiteli / Kakhuri Mtsvane (Amber Wine)
Fermented and aged in clay vessels (qvevri) with full skin contact for 4–6 months. Deep amber color, structured tannins, earthy and nutty notes with dried fruit complexity. - Saperavi (Red)
A bold, full-bodied red made in qvevri. Unfiltered, with rustic character, intense berry flavors, and pronounced structure. A raw, honest expression of the grape.
🍷 European Style Wines
- Rkatsiteli (White)
Fermented without skins, resulting in a light, fresh, and floral wine with citrus and green apple notes. Crisp acidity and clean finish. - Saperavi (Red)
A softer, more elegant red compared to the qvevri version. Aged in stainless steel or oak (depending on the vintage), with smooth tannins and balanced fruitiness.
