Enjoying Rural Beauty to the Fullest!
Nature and humans have conspired to conceive an evergreen spot of iconic scenery and tradition. This meeting point is the village of Roshnik, situated some 25 minutes of driving from Berat downtown. The region of Berat is rich in touristic attractions and remarkable villages; yet Roshnik stands out. A historically important area, the village is situated in a strategic location of the ancient Via Egnatia. Due to a unique combination of favorable climate conditions, the village is blessed with lush nature year-round.
It is home to the Pules grape variety, which grows only here, with the vineyards spreading as far as the naked eye can see. A walk through the vineyards and the carefully tilled fields ends at the village mosque, which is made attractive by its distinctive architecture and spiritual importance for the locals.
One of the local families, the Fiskas, who run their agritourism activity, will host you in their popular eatery, so you can get a taste of their rakia – a strong, fruit-flavored distilled alcoholic drink – made of the native varieties, in centuries old-tradition. You will visit the family winery and see how the wines are made, feast your palate with their wine selection and other alcoholic liqueurs that preserve the rich tradition of the region. As the residents of Roshnik, known for the production of figs will no doubt tell
you, a dried fig is a wine’s best friend, along with a generous platter of local cheese varieties and other
seasonal relishes. A very Instagrammable moment, don’t you agree?
