Admire the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, one of the most beautiful Romanesque monument
Perfect Montalcino and Brunello wine tour
A private tour to discover a small village famous for producing Brunello wine, one of the most prestigious red wines in Tuscany. From Florence, drive through the stunning Tuscan countryside of South Siena for a splendid day of sightseeing and wine tasting.
Montalcino village
The scenery is breathtaking here – cypress trees, fields and livestock with extraordinary combinations of green, grey and brown landscapes. The famous Brunello wine is produced here with the local Sangiovese grapes. Every activity in the town revolves around the wine production.
Explore Montalcino
Walk in Piazza del Popolo in the center of the town and Palazzo dei Priori nearby, a building from the 1300s. Three churches here worth a visit, built between the 13th and 15th centuries: Sant’Agostino, Sant’Egidio and the Cathedral.
Brunello wine with a view
Brunello wine is one of the finest and most prestigious wines produced in the whole world. From the towers of Montalcino’s large fortress, there is a splendid view of the surrounding Orcia and Arbia valleys.
Beyond southern Tuscany, catch a glimpse of the beginning of the region of Latium.
Visit a winery
Stop at a typical Brunello winery and learn all about the ancient roots of the winery. Discover the history and origins of Brunello and other wines produced by the estate.
Walk through vineyards and cellars. End your visit with a wine tasting, learn how to enjoy and appreciate excellence.
Getting hungry?
Montalcino offers many options to taste a selection of local, traditional recipes.
Delicious fresh pasta with savory sauces, wild mushrooms soup, pici pasta with meat sauce, ravioli stuffed with ricotta cheese, roasted meats, wild boar in a casserole, fresh vegetables…the list goes on!
The legend of the Abbey of Sant’Antimo
In the solitary Valle d’Orcia visit the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, one of the most beautiful Romanesque monastic monuments in Italy.
Legend has it that it was founded by Emperor Charlemagne in 781. It is said that on their way back from Rome along the ancient road Via Francigena, most of the Emperor’s army came down with the plague. When the Emperor’s prayers were answered and the pestilence ceased, he founded the Abbey.
More wine?
If desired and time permitting, after your visit to Sant'Antimo, your driver can bring you to another winery and let you taste their wines and local products, which are famous all over the world.
