Experience the Charm of Morgadio da Calçada in Porto and Douro Valley

Welcome to Morgadio da Calçada, a historic wine estate nestled in the heart of the Douro Valley. Our charming hotel features eight uniquely designed rooms, perfect for those eager to experience one of the region's oldest wine producers, renowned for the exceptional quality crafted by winemaker Dirk Niepoort.
Located in Provesende, a picturesque vineyard village, our estate is housed in a stately 17th-century manor, rich in cultural heritage and tradition. We have thoughtfully renovated the original farm buildings to provide modern comforts, including air conditioning, private bathrooms, and TVs, while preserving the rustic charm of the property.
Guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including communal spaces for dining and wine tasting, all set against the backdrop of our 4.5 hectares of lush vineyards. Our wines, proudly bearing the Morgadio da Calçada label, are designed by acclaimed architects Siza Vieira and Michel Toussaint, with Dirk van der Niepoort overseeing the winemaking process.
In addition to our exquisite wines, we offer unique products such as olive oil and port wine soaps, crafted from a traditional 19th-century recipe. At Morgadio da Calçada, we promise a warm welcome and an authentic experience of life on a historic quinta, making it one of the best destinations to appreciate the legacy of Port wine.

I had a delightful 2 day stay with a friend in July. The accommodations were adequate & comfortable (the room was a little tight). The grounds, the location, the hosts, the breakfasts the dinners and the wine were all exceptional! We loved staying in the quiet & historical village of Provesende and had a beautiful walk into Pinhão for port tasting one day. Highly recommended if you have the opportunity to stay here. Don’t miss the dinner with wine tastings. It was a highlight!

10/10 hosts, extremely helpful in getting us a taxi here from Pinhão when there were none available in town. Daniella gave us a wonderful welcome and Manuel was a perfect dinner host. A fascinating family and property history that visitors are lucky to be able to enjoy thanks to Manuel and his family's gift for hospitality. June is an excellent time to visit. Supper-club style dining most nights with their own lovely wines and ports from the small on-site vineyard (which you can also walk in at your leisure, no tours necessary). Continental breakfast with local bread still warm from the village bakery and eggs to order. Also a swimming pool and wine shop on site. Located in the centre of the village of Provesende, which also has some cute bars and a restaurant within 2 mins walk. Great to come away from the main stops on the Duoro river to see rural life and stay in a part of local history at the top of the valley. Spectacular views.
