Barbera del Monferrato wine region is the largest of the three Barbera zones in Piedmont, yet it is less known in the wine community. As the name suggests, the region focuses on the Barbera grapes and wines with a fraction of other grapes cultivated in the region. Wine from the Barbera del Monferrato wine region has a deep ruby red color with aromas of ripe plum, cherries, and spices. The provinces of Asti and Alessandria are located north and south of the Barbera del Monferrato wine region, which is situated on the Monferrato hills. The area is located in northern Italy's northwest Piedmont wine region. Santa Maria di Castello Church Alessandria
