Tasmanian Wine Festival

Tasmania Australia 7–8 February 2026

Tasmanian Wine Festival is one of the wine festivals that anchors the Tasmania calendar, drawing both local visitors and international wine travellers each year. It is held at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Lower Domain Road, in the heart of one of Australia's most distinctive wine areas. The festival has been running since 2020 and reaches its 6th edition in 2026, giving it one of the longer track records among wine events of its kind.

Features 45+ Tasmanian wineries, 250+ wines, live music; supports Ronald McDonald House Charities; headline act for 2026 is The Whispering Jack Show. Wine festivals across Europe typically combine producer tastings with food pairings, live music, and a strong sense of place. Visitors can expect access to wines from a range of producers in the appellation, alongside food stalls offering regional specialities, masterclasses or vineyard walks for those who want to learn more, and an opportunity to buy directly from producers at cellar prices. Many events run across multiple days or weekends, allowing visitors to sample different parts of the programme according to interest, and combine well with the area's wider tourism offer. The event is organised by Luke Schlenner (Festival Organiser), which sets the tone and direction of the programme each year.

Tasmania is Australia's coolest-climate wine region, producing the country's premium traditional-method sparkling wines (House of Arras, Jansz, Stefano Lubiana) alongside elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Tamar Valley in the north and the Coal River Valley near Hobart are the main zones, with the East Coast and Pipers River also producing significant volumes. The cool maritime climate, long ripening season and relatively pure environment have made Tasmania the source of fruit for many mainland Australian premium sparkling brands as well as a serious still-wine region in its own right.

The 2026 edition is scheduled for 7-8 February 2026. Cost details are best confirmed directly with the organiser ahead of travel. Full programme, ticketing and updated information are published on the official site at https://taswinefest.com.au/. Visitors are advised to check directly with the organiser for the latest schedule, as festival programmes are sometimes updated close to the event date.

Tasmania is reached via Hobart (HBA) or Launceston (LST) airports. The Tamar Valley north of Launceston is the main northern wine zone (Pipers River, Pipers Brook), with the Coal River Valley just east of Hobart the southern centre. Tasmania pairs wine tourism with Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park (UNESCO-listed), the Bay of Fires coastline, the Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay, MONA (the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, one of Australia's most-visited cultural attractions), and the strong Tasmanian food scene including premium oysters, salmon, abalone, beef, lamb and cheese.
