Family Tradition in Rioja Winemaking
Winery History
For over five generations, the Diez-Caballero family has been a significant presence in the wine industry. Initially, they sold wine made from grapes grown in their own vineyards to local bars and distributors in Bilbao. In 1979, Antonio Diez-Caballero expanded their reach by launching the commercial brand Diez-Caballero, producing his first wine under this name. The family’s first Reserva followed in 1987, marking a pivotal moment in their winemaking journey.
The Family Today
Victoria Cañas, the current owner and a Diez-Caballero by marriage, has instilled her passion for winemaking in her children, Victoria and Antonio. Together, they manage the winery, continuing the family legacy. Bodega Diez-Caballero now produces seven wines, including six red varieties and one white, ranging from a young Tempranillo to a refreshing Viura and a distinguished Gran Reserva.
Award-Winning Quality
Diez-Caballero wines have received accolades, earning up to 94 points from renowned wine critics and guides, including Robert Parker, James Suckling, and the Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine. The family’s commitment to quality is evident in every bottle, with their wines now enjoyed in countries such as the US, UK, Denmark, Australia, China, Puerto Rico, Kazakhstan, and Iceland.
