Bodegas Fernández de Piérola – A Family Tradition Since 1996

Founded in 1996, Bodegas Fernández de Piérola is a family-owned winery dedicated to producing distinctive wines that stand out in the renowned Rioja region. Nestled in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, this winery benefits from a climate shielded from cold northern winds, creating ideal conditions for grape cultivation. The family’s commitment to quality is evident in every bottle, as they prioritize traditional farming practices, including manual pruning and soil maintenance, to ensure the health of their vineyards.

Unique Flavors from Moreda Vineyards

At Bodegas Fernández de Piérola, only grapes from the Moreda vineyards are used, preserving the unique character of their wines. The winery focuses on key grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Tempranillo Blanco, and Viura, all of which thrive in the region's optimal rainfall and soil conditions. By closely monitoring environmental factors, the winery guarantees the highest quality grapes for their wines.

Traditional Techniques for Exceptional Wines

The team at Bodegas Fernández de Piérola employs traditional methods and manual labor to craft high-quality red, white, and rosé wines. Careful attention is given to soil health, ensuring the growth of ripe, flavorful grapes. After harvest, the finest grapes are transported to the winery for fermentation in stainless steel tanks, preserving their rich aromas and flavors. Aging takes place in old barrels, allowing the wines to develop a natural fragrance and taste. Finally, the wines are filtered and bottled in slender bottles designed to minimize drips while serving.

Excellent, and I don't like wine
Fantastic! I was given the bottle as a gift. We're not wine drinkers, we don't really like wine, but this is on another level. It's like a dry ham and then you try Iberian ham; well, this wine is Iberian ham. I'll look for it to buy. And we're not wine drinkers!

We had a very interesting tour of the fields, the winery and the cellar followed by a delicious 5-course lunch. Everything was offered with impeccable service and generously accompanied by house wines. One of the best wine tour experiences!!! A 5 star!

I want to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Carlos, a great man whose humility and commitment have made our visit a special place. Not only does it offer quality products, but it also provides warm and friendly treatment. When we entered their winery, we felt very comfortable as if we were at home. His effort and dedication are reflected in every detail, from the impeccable organization to the kind attention he always provides. It is a true example of work and honesty, values that are difficult to find today. It is an honor to be able to support a business run with so much love and effort. Much success and let the achievements continue!

"One of the greatest pleasures in this life is to be able to enjoy a good glass of Pierola Crianza with good company and, if appropriate, with some good food" Personally, the best pleasures in this life are Pierola Crianza and Piquillo peppers. 1.- Visit: From the reservation to the entire process, the attention has been wonderful. Upon arrival we had the great wonder and exceptional luck of being received and doing the entire visit with the owner of the winery Carlos Bujanda Fernández de Pierola. Reception with a very pleasant semi-sweet wine. Wonderful reception knowing the information of each group and with closeness, personalized attention, honesty, enthusiasm for the project. Explanations of all the history and very interesting projects. Visit to the viewpoint with a tasting of a white tempranillo and with chorizo, salchichón, cheese and bread. Visit to the winery with continuation of the explanations. The visit is exceptional in our case due to the enthusiasm, explanation and honesty of the host. It's nice these days to meet good people, natural, excited about a project and capable of transmitting that enthusiasm to others. 2.- Food: Bright, very pleasant dining room, spacious between tables. Very attentive, personalized, effective and efficient service and at all times with great friendliness. Personalized menu for each group with dedication, a real detail. Large portions, well prepared and well presented. Scrambled cod with tomato, very balanced and very good. Accompanied by Pierola Crianza 2020. Round in the mouth, smooth palate, great aftertaste, very good. Peppers stuffed with blood sausage very good "but" personally I would make them with pepper sauce instead of tomato and I would look for peppers without acidulant acid since although they were of high quality the acidulant was noticeable. Very good Chistorra from Navarra, with a very thin and very lean wrapper. Accompanied by Pierola reserva 2015. Complex, balanced wine, complex mid-palate, strong nuances, good aftertaste. Personally to drink alone and with time. Very good and balanced pochas with quail. Ummm I would title them pochas con quail since if you say "with quails" it sounds like whole quails and not pieces. Accompanied by Vitium 2017 old strains. Aromas with great nuances, very complex passage, very marked nuances, aftertaste??? Very good lamb chops with piquillo pepper. Possibility of repeating the different dishes. Accompanies brut nature I'm not into carbonated drinks and it didn't convince me. Goxua dessert. I'm not into sweets and personally I thought it was very sweet and it didn't convince me? Personally, I would have preferred a little cheese but... there are colors to choose from hehe. Wonderful experience due to the attention of all the staff and the great opportunity to enjoy the attention and explanation of the owner Carlos and a wonderful meal accompanied by good and exceptional wines. A good experience to enjoy and learn. Highly recommended

On Saturday the 9th we enjoyed a visit to the winery. We were lucky that our host was Carlos Bujanda Fernández de Piérola, who is the CEO of the company. It was wonderful to hear how an idea for a project becomes a reality and a successful one at that. He was very clear about his objective and he achieved it. The competition is great since there are about 600 wineries in La Rioja. They process 900,000Kg of grapes in 45 days. The grapes are harvested completely manually and are taken in small quantities to the winery so that the grapes arrive intact. We start the visit with a slightly sweet white that has a mixture of Malvasía and Viura grapes. Before going to see the winery and as time allowed, we had an aperitif at the viewpoint with a white Tempranillo grape. Carlos explained to us in a very entertaining way how this grape was born and how this genetic variation was maintained over time and allows us to make that dry white wine that is so tasty and rich in nuances. Then we visited the winery. I was struck by how they store the bottles that belong to specific clients. He explained to us that his Tempranillo was aged for 18 months in American and French oak barrels, when Crianzas usually spend 12 months in barrels. It is a wine made from vines that are about 40 years old. In the delicious food, beautifully served, we drank the Crianza, the Reserva and Vitium, which is made from 120-year-old vines. Carlos had prepared for the visit and knew where each group of people came from. He spoke to each of us in a personalized way. It's very close. And it is clear about its business model and it works. I am very happy with the gift our daughter gave us. The visit with food is ideal. Highly recommended
