Château de Jonzac, the Story of Winery Brand Creation
The story of Gautret Family begins in the maritime region of Saintonge in 1780 and proceeds to the time when the family became the owners of beautiful Château de Jonzac in 1818. In 1847, the “Eaux de Vie” wine business was founded by Jules Gautret and the wine production of this estate was born. In the beginning, Gautret built new cellars and constructed the distillery and started selling the Cognac, as well as the creation of their winerys exclusive brand, “Château de Jonzac”. In the following years, Château de Jonzac started to export to northern European markets, particularly Norway as well as key Latin American markets, mainly Mexico. In early 1895, Jules Gautret was awarded a gold medal at the famous Bordeaux Universal Exhibition for the excellent production of Château de Jonzac Euax de Vie.

The tradition of winemaking at Château de Jonzac continued with the world’s most beautiful grape varieties from the local area. Nowadays the winery continues to produce renowned wine spirits Eaux de Vie. Jules Gautret is part of the Oceania Cooperative Group. The group covers over a third of the Charente vineyards and is the primary company in Charente Vins de Pays with a great reputation in France and abroad. The wines division of Jules Gautret integrates around 1,250 winegrowers, 300 of which hold contracts with the cooperative three wineries which are Saint Sornin, Siecq, and Saint-Sulpice de Royan. Château de Jonzac is also includes the devoted advisors of agriculture, one distillery, and the winemaking facilities with three subsidiaries in the marketing.
