The Legacy of Château de Jonzac

The story of the Gautret family began in the maritime region of Saintonge in 1780, culminating in their acquisition of the stunning Château de Jonzac in 1818. In 1847, Jules Gautret established the “Eaux de Vie” wine business, marking the beginning of wine production at this estate. He constructed new cellars and a distillery, launching the exclusive brand “Château de Jonzac.” Over the years, the winery expanded its reach, exporting to northern European markets like Norway and key Latin American countries, particularly Mexico. Notably, in 1895, Jules Gautret received a gold medal at the Bordeaux Universal Exhibition for the exceptional quality of Château de Jonzac Eaux de Vie.
