Ormonde Wine Estate is situated on the picturesque western coast of South Africa, amidst the rolling hills of Darling. The unique geography, with its molten rocks and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, creates an ideal climate for vineyards. The cool fog that blankets the area provides essential moisture, while the Cape Floral Kingdom boasts nearly 600 unique plant species that bloom annually. The Bassan family has owned Ormonde Wine Estate since 1970 when Vernon Basson's grandfather purchased the farm. With dedication and hard work, Vernon's father, Nico, planted vineyards that have contributed to making this region one of South Africa's premier wine-producing areas.
In 2006, Ormonde Wine Estate expanded its facilities by constructing a new cellar designed to produce high-quality wines. This modern winery combines advanced technology with traditional methods, such as open and barrel fermentation. The estate cultivates a variety of grapes, including Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Pinotage, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Only the finest grapes are handpicked to create their exceptional red, white, and dessert wines, all crafted with minimal intervention to preserve their natural characteristics.

Write a reviewOrmonde Wines is a must do when driving around Darling. It is a very cozy place, you sit comfortably outside in nature, with wooden tables under the trees. Place was beautiful set up, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, with red décor hearts hang from the trees. I have to give Ormonde Wines great credit for their Paté and Wine Tasting, we have done wine tastings at many famous and big wineries, and no one comes close to the impressive way they prepared the plate, whow…....it looked very delicious and attractive. Your services was fantastic, keep it up. We will definitely visit again

Lovely wine tasting experience and sharing platter. Tasted eight wines for R50 - each wine was described to us. Beautiful setting just on the outskirts of Darling, picnic benches under the trees, and other seating under huge umbrellas. Really relaxing.

Such an amazing boutique winery. We were blown away by the quality of the wines. And the service. We had 2 tastings and ordered some snacks during. Everything exceeded our expectations. We would definitely recommend.

I've visited dozens of wineries, and Ormonde certainly sets the bar in every respect! Our hostess "Deslynne" is an absolute gem. Not only is her knowledge of their awesome wines incredibly impressive, but her demeanor is also outstanding! We ordered their flight of 8 wines for only R50. Shiver me timbers... this is excellent value for money! Don't forget to order their cheese platter, which pairs beautifully with their incredible wines! But don't take my word for it, go and experience this for yourself... you'll be absolutely delighted!
