History of Traisental Wine Region
Traisental is a historic wine region in Austria, that has been producing wines for over 500 years. The region's vineyards stretch out across more than 1,500 acres of land, with over 50 vineyards that create more than 10 million bottles of wine.
This region of Austria is one of the newest winemaking regions. It was only developed in 1995, making it young among other wine regions. Now it's becoming well known for the quality wine that comes from here. The Grüner Veltliner has a commanding presence in the vineyards in Traisental and is one of the smallest wineries in Austria with 851 hectares under vines. There are fixed points of interest available to wine enthusiasts in small towns in Austria. Terroir of Transental Wine Region
The landscape of the Traisental is worth seeing; its gentle hills and diminutive vineyards. When you visit the fields, you can see how they gradually change as your walk through into vineyards. Traisental red wine has a distinctive taste because of the soil used to produce it. The soil is primarily composed of calcareous sedimentary rock, which creates a unique tasting experience. Grape Varieties of Transental Wine Region
About half of Austrian wine production come from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, grown in the Traisental zone. Zweigelt, Sauvignon Blanc, and Troker are also planted there.
The viticultural zone spans roughly 12 miles and begins in the northern town of Traismauer, moving south to the area surrounding St Polten. There are vineyards located on steeply sloping banks along the way.
New vines in the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling regions in Austria are expected to produce fruits with intense green and saline tones. The job of the vines is to reach deep for water, and this leads to stronger wines with lower yields. Traisental's wines have a mineral character.
