A Charming Family Winery on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula
Experience the Scenic Bellarine Peninsula
Banks Road Vineyard is a delightful family-owned winery located on the picturesque Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. Founded in 2002 by William and Avanelle Derham, the vineyard began with 5 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, later expanding to include Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Shiraz.
Winemaking with Minimal Intervention
Will Derham's winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard's low yields to produce grapes with high natural sugar levels. This approach results in well-structured, elegant wines crafted with care and passion. The winery is also adopting biodynamic practices, eliminating insecticides and working towards chemical-free land management.
On-Site Production and Local Collaboration
Banks Road Vineyard not only processes its own grapes but also produces wine for other small local producers. All wines are crafted on-site, ensuring that from grape to bottle, the estate wines travel just 400 meters!
Visit the Banks Road Cellar Door
The vineyard spans 12 acres, featuring varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Shiraz. Additionally, they source Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes from the Harcourt Valley near Bendigo. Banks Road wines have garnered numerous accolades, including a prestigious 5 Star Status in the 2020 James Halliday Wine Companion.
The newly completed cellar door welcomes visitors from Thursday to Sunday, offering tastings of the current Banks Road range along with a selection of museum stock for guests to enjoy.
