The Story of Chateau De La Riviere

Located on the remains of an old fortified camp built by Charlemagne in 769, the Castle of La Rivière dominates the Dordogne valley and offers a great view on its river and its 65 hectares of vineyard.

How it all Started

In the XVI century, Gaston De l’Isle, the mayor of Bordeaux takes over the lands and starts the construction of the central main building of the castle. Redesigned by Duthoit – assistant of the famous architect Viollet Le Duc, during the XIX century – the property will pass from one noble family to another which will make the History of the Castle.

Sublime wine - the 2016 red and the 2023 rose are particular highlights! The grounds themselves are stunning and I highly recommend the tasting tour.

We arrived at the castle after booking the tour and tasting the wines. Pleasant walk around the area before our visit with many free entrances. Pauline was our guide and what a chance to get to know her: professional, funny, cultured and lively! Thanks to her! A visit that highlights the peculiarities of this castle to discover. Very attractive price considering the service!

Visit during a wine tasting. The setting is exceptional and the underground cellars are a must see. I highly recommend it. I will definitely return to test the gîte 🙂

We went for a tasting tour. A wonderful place and very unique underground cellars. The tour may not be very technical in content (more of historical value) and the tasting is a bit rushed. However, the friendly staff and the view are magnificent!

Magnificent place (building, setting, atmosphere) Extraordinary cellars (bring a small top for freshness) Top guide with very clear explanations and additional answers in case of questions. Pleasant and explicit tasting Affordable prices Perhaps missing an intervention on the precise production of wine with the different stages (visual supports in support). Visit recommended 200%
