Etruscan culture and tradition at La Chimera d’Albegna
The story of La Chimera d’Albegna began in 1999 when the Florentina-based Becherini family bought a 30-hectare estate in Maremma to continue the family tradition of making beautiful wines. The integration of past history, memories, and tradition gave a nice spirit and life to the winery. The company’s name reflects the art and beauty of the region. The logo is also based on an Etruscan sculpture that depicts La Chimera, a mythological creature. Three generations of the family have worked at the estate and released the first vintage in 2010.
Gifted terroir of Maremma
The estate is located in Maremma, in the southern area of Tuscany. The natural conditions and landscape here are diverse that allow the cultivation of vines. The nearness to sandy beaches and the shimmering sea has a huge effect on the microclimate. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna and beautiful thermal springs. The main grapes grown in the vineyards are Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet, Vermentino, Chardonnay, and Syrah. The best grapes go into the production of their exquisite red, white, and rose wines.
The winery reflects the qualities of Tuscany
The grapes are brought to the winery, where they undergo vinification to make the best Maremma Toscana DOC wines. The sunny climate makes the grapes ripe and helps create quality wines. The experienced winemakers put in a lot of work to uphold the high standards set by their products. More than 3000 years of winemaking is behind the company, and wine lovers visit the estate all year.
