Etruscan Heritage at La Chimera d’Albegna

La Chimera d’Albegna's story began in 1999 when the Becherini family from Florence acquired a 30-hectare estate in Maremma, Tuscany. This family-owned winery honors a rich tradition of winemaking, blending history and culture into every bottle. The name "La Chimera" pays homage to the region's artistic legacy, inspired by an Etruscan sculpture of a mythical creature. Since releasing their first vintage in 2010, three generations of the Becherini family have dedicated themselves to crafting exceptional wines.

The Unique Terroir of Maremma

Nestled in southern Tuscany, the estate benefits from a diverse landscape and favorable climate, ideal for vine cultivation. Proximity to sandy beaches and the Mediterranean Sea creates a unique microclimate that enhances grape quality. The vineyards primarily feature Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Chardonnay, and Syrah, producing a range of exquisite red, white, and rosé wines.

Winemaking Excellence in Tuscany

At the winery, grapes undergo careful vinification to create Maremma Toscana DOC wines. The region's sunny climate contributes to the ripening of the grapes, resulting in high-quality wines. With over 3,000 years of winemaking tradition behind them, the skilled winemakers at La Chimera d’Albegna maintain rigorous standards, attracting wine enthusiasts year-round to experience the essence of Tuscany.

We had a wonderful time touring the vineyard and trying all of the wines. The food offerings were also fabulous. My husband and I felt so welcome, and we really enjoyed learning about the process of wine making.

After an afternoon in Pitigliano we passed by here and decided to visit without an appointment. We were greeted by two very friendly dogs who showed us the way to the brewery. When we got here, 2 winemakers from the brewery came who spoke no English and we could barely pronounce Grazie. After a phone call with the owner who spoke good English, this was no longer a problem. The gentlemen were able to serve us excellent wine and immediately started preparing snacks, and even after we announced, to our great regret, that we would not eat meat, they immediately put other snacks on the table for us. We drank delicious wines while the dogs flirted with us, and the gentlemen really did their best to make us happy (even though their work day was already over). When paying, we felt that we paid too little, but the men did not want to accept a tip... with this review we want to make up for that in another way! Thank you
