Expertise of Franco Ricci

La Roccaia, located in the picturesque Chianti region near San Gimignano, is owned by Franco Ricci, who began his winemaking career in 1988 after earning a Wine Technician Diploma from the Agriculture Technical Institute of Siena. With a decade of experience at Guicciardini Strozzi, Franco honed his skills in crafting high-quality wines, gaining invaluable knowledge about modern cellar operations. Today, he successfully manages La Roccaia, a testament to his dedication and passion for winemaking.

The La Roccaia Estate

Franco's grandfather initiated the family’s winemaking tradition to connect with nature, gradually establishing La Roccaia as a leading producer of San Gimignano and Chianti Colli Senesi wines. Starting with just 5 hectares of vineyards, the estate has expanded to 18 hectares, producing not only their signature wines but also Vinsanto del Chianti, sparkling wine made using the Champenoise method, and refreshing rosé. Additionally, the estate features an olive grove dedicated to producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

Stunning Views and Wine Tastings

Situated approximately 9 kilometers from San Gimignano, La Roccaia offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. This region is celebrated for its natural beauty and panoramic vistas. Wine enthusiasts are invited to visit La Roccaia year-round for engaging wine tasting sessions, where they can savor exquisite wines amidst the serene backdrop of San Gimignano.

Had a wonderful wine tasting experience at the family winery over looking the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The two sisters from the family running the winery greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of the barrell room before they gave a tasting of about 4-5 of their delicious wines with some antipasto. We then got to drink some more wine on the beautiful terrace over looking the vineyards with two bottles of wine given to us when we left. This is was a wonderful and highly enjoyable experience and I highly recommend it.

A few days ago we went wine tasting with a small group. It is a small family business - very well organized. Samantha gave us great information about the wines and production. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. The wines are of great quality and the price-performance ratio is excellent. You can see the love that is put into the work. We will definitely come back.
