The Rich History of Ladron De Lunas

Established in 1916, Ladron De Lunas has a storied past marked by continuous improvement and innovation. The winery underwent significant renovations in 2007 under the guidance of oenologist Fernando Martínez, who modernized the facility with state-of-the-art technology for wine production.

The roots of this estate trace back to Vicente Lassala Palomares, a prominent figure in Valencian agriculture who founded the Masía de Aldamar winery in 1870. The Lassala and Pons families, ancestors of the current owners, formed a strong bond as competitors in the wine industry. Today, 150 years later, they remain partners and friends, showcasing a unique camaraderie in the world of winemaking. The original barrel park at Ladrón de Lunas stands as a testament to the winery's rich heritage.

The Unique Wines of Ladron De Lunas

Surrounded by serene pine forests, the vineyards of Ladron De Lunas produce grapes that reflect the tranquility and beauty of their environment. This natural setting contributes to the distinctive character of the wines crafted here. The winery holds all necessary licenses for wine production, aging, and bottling, and is recognized by the Utiel-Requena Protected Designation of Origin, Valencia Designation of Origin, and Cava Designation of Origin.

Ladrón de Lunas wines and cavas have gained popularity beyond Spain, reaching international markets in Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Finland in Europe. In Africa, they are enjoyed in Nigeria, Rwanda, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea. The winery also has a presence in Florida and Mexico in America, as well as in China, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in Asia.

The tasting that your winemaker put together for us was a wonderful experience. In reality it has been an experience from the vineyard to its consumption, with the traditional treading of grapes. The winery is possibly the most beautiful building I have seen dedicated to this purpose. I loved the wines, highlighting their little green object and the exclusive moon thief. To repeat

We have gone to an experiential tasting at the Thief of Moons winery. A highly recommended experience with the winemaker Fernando Martínez where you learn to perceive all the details of his wines: qualities, nuances, color, flavor... and understand part of the processes that are followed to make a good wine. Furthermore, this whole experience has been framed by going to the vineyards to pick the grapes with which you then tread the grapes. An experience that I will always keep in my memory, in a dream environment.

Our visit to the winery was welcoming and with an excellent reception. We loved the authentic interior design and, as for the wines, our favorite grape was Bobal, although they were all great. Jesús shared with us a phrase about taking advantage of every moment to open a bottle of wine and explained the procedure they perform. We enjoyed the tasting and the history of the name of the winery, making time fly in such good company. We hope to return soon!

I have to highlight with this review that Fernando, the winemaker, is one of those people who welcomes you and explains with such authentic passion, that he infects you with inspiration and the pleasure of knowing every detail of both the history and the process of each part. Very satisfied with the visit, especially to do it in a group, it is very fun. The good atmosphere and good vibes that are palpable in the air fit perfectly with the majestic architecture of the Winery, which in its day was one of the largest in the world where up to 2 million liters of wine can be held. Incredible! If you like the world of wine, and want to surround yourself with people who passionately live their work, it is worth coming. Very happy with the visit and I will certainly repeat.
