The Scenic Monastery Winery

Monastery Winery is nestled in the picturesque village of Openica, just 10 kilometers from Ohrid. Located beneath the serene St. Kuzman and Damjan Monastery, this winery is surrounded by fresh forest air and a gentle river. It’s an ideal spot for relaxation, where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature alongside our exquisite wines.

The Ohrid Wine Tradition

In the Ohrid region, winemaking is a cherished tradition, with nearly every household producing their own wine. The locals possess a unique passion for crafting wines, often sharing their creations with friends and family. After years of perfecting our recipes and receiving heartfelt compliments, we established our winery in 2019. Since then, we have been proud to produce around 10,000 bottles of wine each year, showcasing the rich flavors of our land.

The Monastery Vineyards

Our vineyards thrive in the Ohrid Region's mild climate, which is ideal for growing grapes with high acidity and a light to medium body. Each grape is handpicked with care, placed in small baskets, and transported directly to our winery, where they are transformed into exceptional wines. This meticulous process ensures that every bottle reflects the unique character of our terroir.

We had a wonderful time with Simon and his wife, he showed us around, explained the process of making wine and rakija and offered a taste test. We highly recommend the winery, the place is stunning, people lovely and the wine is 10/10 as well, we will gladly come again:) thank you

A great place, both for its beauty and for the peace you can breathe here. Thanks to the two guys who take care of everything. They are really professional, very kind and speak fluent English. The wines tasted were of excellent quality. And the accompanying explanations are really exhaustive. After the tasting, I recommend visiting the monastery. Congratulations guys.

Great wine in a nice scenic place. After a nice and interesting tour by one of the passionate owners we went upstairs for a tasty food platter and beautiful wines. Highly recommend a visit and buy a bottle of wine before you leave.

Wine tour and tasting in Monastery Winery was one of the best experiences of our trip through North Macedonia. The trip started with driver Stefan picking us up and giving us some introduction into the trip by telling us interesting facts about Macedonia, villages we were driving through and the winery itself - where we're going, how the winery started ... Our tour guide Simon was an amazing storyteller, explaining the process of making wine, rakija and gin. Their products almost have their own personality and resemble quality of the ingredients, production process, aging and everything in between. The wine tasting was accompanied by a charcuterie board of local product that completed the whole experience. What we really appreciated was being able to taste the wines and every other drink in a steady pace while having some pleasant conversations and laughs with Simon, the young lady that was also serving us wine (I'm sorry, I forgot the name), fellow wine taster Karina and everyone else we had the chance to speak to. Besides everything we were served some additional gin and wine that were all very tasty. What felt the best was being welcome there and seeing the passion with which all the staff are working with and the passion in telling the stories of their wine. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Ohrid. Thank you to everyone!
