A Fusion of Tradition and Modern Winemaking
The Story Behind Ponterotto
Azienda Agricola Ponterotto derives its name from the historic “Ponte Rotto” bridge that spans the Calore River. This ancient structure, part of the Appian Way, was built during Roman times to facilitate trade between the regions of Campania and Apulia. The winery is situated in Calore, within the municipality of Mirabella Eclano (Avellino), an area rich in history and natural beauty.
The Family Legacy
Ponterotto is the realization of the dreams of three siblings: Antonio, Gaetano, and Maria Luisa Di Pietro. Inspired by their grandparents' dedication to the land, they have worked tirelessly to cultivate the vineyards they inherited. For the Di Pietro family, their land symbolizes a deep connection to their rural heritage. This passion led them to establish Ponterotto, where renowned grape varieties like Aglianico, Falanghina, and Greco thrive. These grapes have roots that trace back to ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, showcasing the rich viticultural history of the region.
Commitment to Quality
The winery is dedicated to preserving traditional winemaking techniques while integrating modern practices. This commitment ensures that each bottle of Ponterotto wine reflects the unique terroir of Campania. Visitors can expect to taste wines that not only honor the past but also represent the future of Italian winemaking.
