Experience Unique Wines Crafted with Tradition and Expertise
A Rich History
Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima is located on the southern bank of the Tagus River, just 2 kilometers from Alpiarza and 11 kilometers from Santarem. This estate boasts a fascinating history that dates back to the 16th century when it was granted to the Military Order of Santiago de Espada by the King of Portugal for their bravery during the conquest of Santarem.
For over 600 years, the estate remained with this military order until it was inherited by Maria Luisa Noronha de Sampaio in the early 1840s. The estate was then integrated into the Palmela House in 1846 and has been in the Palmela family for generations.
Tradition Meets Modern Techniques
At Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima, a diverse range of products is cultivated, including cork, olive oil, honey, corn, potatoes, and, of course, wine. The estate also features the Koudelaria da Quinta do Lagoalva de Cima, dedicated to breeding Lusitanian horses. The owners have successfully blended modern techniques with traditional practices, showcasing their passion for winemaking.
The vineyards span 45 hectares, planted in the prime terroirs of the Tagus River region, featuring both national and international grape varieties. Winemakers Diogo Campilho and Pedro Pinho, recognized with numerous awards, strive to merge the best aspects of new world winemaking with European traditions. Their wines reflect the unique characteristics of robust grape varieties, influenced by the estate's microclimate and terroir.
